DevLog #004: Click-to-move, waystones, and a better start cover image

Welcome to DevLog #004 for Falkreach!

This update covers work from last couple of weeks, and a lot of it is about making the game easier to learn, easier to move around in, and more pleasant to play.

The biggest change is click-to-move. You can now click or tap the ground and your character will walk there. If the way is blocked, your character should stop at the nearest safe spot instead of trying to push through walls, rocks, or other blockers. Target actions also feel more useful now, because Move To, Follow, Attack, and Interact can guide your character into range when needed.

To help new players, there is now a simple in-game Help guide. It explains movement, fighting, gathering, and building in plain words. The goal here is simple: you should not need to guess how the basics work.

The world itself also has a much better starting area now. New characters can begin near a real camp with a fisherman, huts, and a waystone. While it's still just an example map, it feels more like arriving somewhere in the world, not just being dropped onto the map. There is also a more guided early quest path, so your first steps can lead you through small tasks like cutting a tree, clearing a stump, breaking a stone, crafting an axe, and defeating a goblin.

Another big change is waystone travel. You can now use waystones to jump between places for a small coin cost, which makes getting around the world much faster.

There are also many smaller fixes that should be easy to feel even if you do not notice them right away:

  • Movement and collision were cleaned up, so walls, doors, windows, and narrow gaps behave more reliably.
  • Respawning after death was improved, so coming back should be more consistent and less awkward.
  • A lot of behind-the-scenes work was also done, so busy areas, crowded fights, joining the world, and normal play should feel smoother and more stable.

Thank you for playing Falkreach and helping shape it. If you try the new movement, the new starting path, or the waystones, I would love to hear how they feel.
